Crawfordsville – Sherman E. Grimes, 75 years old, retired Crawfordsville businessman, died Friday night in his home here after suffering a heart attack. A native of Crawfordsville, Mr. Grimes was a member of the First Methodist Church and Montgomery Masonic Lodge. Mr. Grimes was a former treasurer of the Ben Hur Life Association and an honorary past president of the association. Previously he had represented other insurance companies in this city. His father, James Grimes, was Crawfordsville chief of police several years. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Emma Siegler Grimes; a daughter, Mrs. George Hess of Indianapolis; four brothers, Fred Grimes, former Crawfordsville police chief; Arthur Grimes, Crawfordsville businessman; Ralph Grimes of Lafayette and Montie Grimes of Daytona Beach, Fla; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Bright Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery. - kbz

Sherman E. Grimes, 74, a former resident of Lafayette died unexpectedly at 9:15 p.m. Friday at his home at Crawfordsville. A native of Crawfordsville, Mr. Grimes had lived here for about 10 years while he was a representative of the Prudential Life Insurance Company. After moving back to Crawfordsville, he affiliated with the Ben Hur Life Insurance Company of Crawfordsville and was its treasurer when he retired about three years ago. He was married in 1906 to Emma Siegler of Lafayette. Surviving with the widow are a daughter, Mrs. George Hess of Indianapolis and four brothers, Ralph B. Grimes of West Lafayette, Fred and Arthur Gimes of Crawfordsville and Montie Grimes of Dayton Beach, Fla.
