Mrs. Jane Grimes, the wife of Joseph Grimes, died about 10 o’clock Wednesday at the family residence on West Wabash Avenue. She was taken quite ill two weeks ago and for several days past has been so low that death was not unexpected. Mrs. Grimes was 69 years of age and has long been a resident of the county. She was a consistent Christian woman and member of the 1st ME Church. The deceased was born in Fleming County Kentucky in 1828 and was married to Joseph Grimes in 1847. Of the 10 children born to them 8 are still living and they together with the husband will mourn the loss of a kind and loving mother and wife. – kbz

Mrs. Jane Grimes, wife of Joseph Grimes, died at the home at 709 West Wabash Avenue, at 10:30 o’clock Wednesday, aged 69 years. Death was occasioned by the general breaking down of the system attendant upon old age. The funeral occurred at the residence this morning at 10 o’clock, Revs. Greene and Leech officiating. Burial took place at Oak Hill.
Mrs. Grimes was born in Fleming County, Kentucky, Oct. 21, 1828. She was united in marriage to Joseph Grimes, who survives here, in 1847. To them were born ten children, eight of whom are living, namely: Mrs. George Haas, Taylor Grimes, John Grimes, Mrs. W. E. Henkle, all of this city; S. M. Grimes, of Brazil, Mrs. Belle Gregory, of Chicago, Gee Grimes, of Joliet, Ill, and Edward L. Grimes, of San Francisco.
Mrs. Grimes united with the Methodist Church over fifty years ago and during her entire life time has been an ardent and conscientious member of that faith. She was a loving mother and a woman whose traits of character endeared her to legions of friends, who will learn with sadness of her death. -s
