Darlington - J. Leo Grimes, 78, reitred farmer and grain dealer, died Saturday morning at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette - death followed a short illness. He was associated more than 50 years with the Kirkpatrick Grain Co. serving as president, then director of the firm. He farmed in the Kirkpatrick and Darlington areas until retiring 16 years ago. Mr. Grimes was born in Kirkpatrick Nov 26, 1887, a son of Lawson and Anne Kessler Grimes. He was married to Mildred Bryant at Clarks Hill Oct 20, 1920. An Army veteran of WWI, he served with the AEF from September 1917 until July 1919. He was a member of American Legion Post 302. Surviving are the wife; a son, Richard D Grimes of Romney; two daughters, Mrs. Edward Heimbach of New Ross and Maj. Jane Grimes of the WAC at Ft. Meade, MD; a brother, Clarence Grimes of Linden and six grandchildren. Funeral services are announced for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bright Funeral Home in Darlington with Rev. Peter Heemstra officiaitng and burial in Darlington IOOF Cemetery. Military rites will be at the graveside. - kbz
