George James Guy was born at Chester, Ill, June 16, 1884, and d. in this city at 11:30 p.m. May 30, 1908. He came to this place in Aug 1905, bringing his sister, Pearl and mother. Subsequently these were joined by his father, brother and his grandmother. He had lived previously at Waveland, Indiana, a young merchant in the firm of Hanna, Kritz & Co. Almost immediately after coming he was employed by Charles Ilfeld and he finally closed out the retail stock of that firm when the change was made to exclusive wholesale. He then was immediately employed by Bacharach brothers, who soon discovered his valuable qualities and placed much under his sole discretion. In May, 1906, the sister, Iona Pearl, died. In Dec. following, discovering his own infirmity fast coming, he went up with Forester RL Mouslman and taught the children till late in April 1907. Being much improved his ambition and plans led him to accept a travelling position with one of the largest firms in the W. at a high salary. He was very successful but he had never learned to measure his strength. At El Paso he was attacked by a hemorrhage and compelled to return home to Las Vegas at once. He had been acting under the advice of Dr. RK McClanahan in his trip to the mountains and that physician stood courageously by him till his last breath. He was a graduate of the State Commissioned HS at Waveland, Indiana. His high ability in business life was complemented by equal talent in other directions. The young man had led a blameless life. Rev. Norman Skinner said in part: "To those who knew him his whole character was a beautiful example. He united with firmness and decision a sterling integrity, which added to his absolute moral purity made him remarkable among men." Funeral services were conducted at the home by Rev. Norman Skinner of the Presbyterian Church of this city of which the deceased was a member. He was buried at the Masonic Cemetery, Tues June 2, 1908. -- typed by kbz
