Mrs. Mary Somerville Greene, 74 years old widow of Dr. Henry Edmund Greene, died Thursday morning at 9:30 o'clock at her home, 415 east Main street. She was taken suddenly ill late Wednesday afternoon. A life resident of Crawfordsville and one of the city's most highly respected women, Mrs. Greene was stricken on her 52nd wedding anniversary. Her husband a pioneer in the medical profession in this community, died in 1922 after having been identified prominently with the social and civic life in Crawfordsville since the turn of the century. Mrs. Greene was a member of the First Methodist church and was active in church affairs many years. Surviving are one son, H.E. Greene, Jr. of LaGrange, Illinois, a daughter, Mrs. Raymond Ross of West Lafayette, one sister, Mrs. Arthur Enos of Hollywood, Florida, a grandson, Sgt. Henry E. Greene of the U.S. Army in France, and a granddaughter, Mary Alice Ross, a student in Wellesley college. She was preceded in death by a sister, Miss Adah Somerville, who passed away eight years ago. Mrs. Greene was taken to the Utterback and Bright funeral home where friends may pay their respects. Arrangements for the services are incomplete.
