William C. GRAY, farmer and dairyman and prominent member of the 1st United Brethren Church, passed away at Culver Hospital this morning at 8:30 o'clock. Mr. Gray had been in failing health and for some months and the inroads of disease were too great for his vitality to resist. Deceased was born in Putnam County Aug 24, 1864, the son of Jasper and Mary J. Gray and came with his parents to Montgomery County several years ago. He resided in and near Crawfordsville until his death. He was married to Miss Edith H. McCormick 39 years ago. Mrs. Gray and their son, Hugh MN. Gray, survive. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Marthene, Bernard and Dallas Gray; one brother, Lee Gray of Crawfordsville, one sister, Mrs. Angeline Hart of New Mexico; an uncle, Sturgeon Gray and an aunt, Mrs. Casad, both of Crawfordsville; Mrs. Overton, an aunt in California; Mrs. Dave Trout, an aunt of Chicago and a number of nieces and nephews. His parents and one sister, Mrs. Aaron Hood preceded him in death. Mr. and Mrs. Gray have resided for the last several years on the old McCormick homestead east of the city where Mr. Gray was engaged in dairying and farming. Deceased was a prominent member of the 1st United Brethren Church. About 40 years ago he became a member of the old Shiloh church and when the First church was built, he became a charter member. His Christian life was beautiful and his loyalty and faithfulness to the church were wonderful. he was highly respected and greatly loved by his friends. the church is in deep sorrow over the loss of one of its most devoted members. Funeral services will be conducted from the 1st United Brethren church Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. GL Stine officiating. -- kbz
