Tangier - William D. Graves, 69 of Tangier died at 6:15 a.m. Monday at Cornwall, NY after suffering a heart attack on Thursday. He was visiting in New York at the time. Mr. Graves was a retired school teacher and had taught school 20 years in Tangier and 21 at Rockville. He was a member of the New Richmond Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge 604. He was also a member of Parke County Low-Club, Scottish Rite at Terre Haute; American Association of Retired Persons, American Legion Post 48 at Rockville and VFW Post 5653 at Clinton. He was a charter member of the Elks Lodge 2471 at Rockville and member of the national and state retired teachers associations. He was a veteran of WWII and had served in the US Army. He was a graduate of New Richmond HS in 1927 and a 1933 graduate of the former Central Normal College at Danville. Born Feb 11, 1909 at New Richmond, he was a son of C.W. and Melvina Williams Graves. He was married to Mary Catharine Marks Oct 8, 1932. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Col. Richard D. Graves of Frankfort, Germany and James W. of St. Louis, MO and 5 grandchildren. Services are scheduled at 10 a.m. Thursday in Butler Funeral Home at Rockville with Rev. Dale Payne officiating. Burial in Rush Creek Cemetery near Tangier.
