Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal Friday 5 June 1896 The following obituary notice was sent to the Journal from Chatham, Ill., which concerns the death of a lady well known here:
“Died, at the residence of her niece, Mrs. Alice Galloway Matthews, near Pawnee, Sangamon County, Illinois, May 26, 1896, Nancy L. Graves, aged 91 years, two months and seven days. She was born in Bath County, Kentucky, March 19, 1805, and was married in 1821 to Thomas Graves, who departed this life in 1873. She united with the Presbyterian Church at the tender age of 13 years and continued to the end of her earthly life a consistent and faithful member of the same. She had been a reader of the Herald and Presbyter for about fifty years. She lived, loved and respected by all who knew her. Her end was peaceful. The obsequies were held at the residence of Bro. Matthews, conducted by the writer. The attendance of sympathizing friends was large.
