WESLEY GRANTHAM
Source: Crawfordsville Daily Journal 15 May 1903
Wesley Grantham died Tuesday evening after a three weeks illness of typhoid pneumonia. He was nearly 78 years old and was the father of James Grantham. One brother survives him, E. Grantham. Mr. Grantham was well known over the county for his long drawn out law suits against the Midland Railroad. The road went through his farm and Harry Crawford, the owner, failed to pay for the right of way. Grantham at one time held up trains for a week compelling them to stop and transfer around his land. Finally the federal courts stopped him and the trains again ran without interference from the "Grantham Guard." The funeral occurred this morning. - kbz
