Graves - William Sr. - Montgomery InGenWeb Project

New Richmond, Dec 15 -- This morning about half past 5, William Graves, Sr. better known as "Uncle Billy," arose seeming in his usual good health. At half past six he was dead due to a severe and sudden attack of neuralgia of the heart. He was as well as usual on Sunday and had no hint of the impending shadow of death. Mrs. Graves was in the kitchen getting breakfast when she heard her husband making an unusual noise. She went to the living room and found him in great distress. Quickly she summoned Dr. Washburn, the family physician and he came and did all that could be done to revive the patient, but it was of no avail. Mr. Graves has always been blessed with robust health. No one here expected to hear of his death this monring and when the news spread about it caused deep sorrow over the entire town for "Uncle Billy" was a general favorite. He was widely and most favorable known in the north part of Montgomery and south part of Tippecanoe counties. The deceased was born in Tippecanoe County near Sugar Grove in 1845 and was in his 86th year. He spent his entire life in Tippecanoe and Montgomery. After leaving Sugar Grove he move don a farm SW of New Richmond. He resided there until he came to this place and retired about 7 years ago. He was twice married, the first time to Miss Mary Swank of near Elmdale. Two children were born to this unon, Mrs. John Graves of three miles southwest of New Richmond and William Graves, Jr. of one mile west of here. They both survive. His first wife died 20 years ago. Eight years ago last August he was united in marriage to Miss Sue Ashmore of Crawfordsville. She survives him. The funeral will be held Wednesday at one in the afternoon either at the late home or in the Methodist Church. - typed by kbz
