Gott - RHoda Swindler
Source: Crawfordsville Daily Journal Wednesday 6 May 1891
Mrs. Rhoda Gott, aged 87 years, died last evening at the home of her son, Dr. W. T. Gott, on East Main Street after a prolonged sickness. A severe attack of the grip, succeeded by paralysis of one entire side was the cause of death.
Her maiden name was Rhoda A. Swindler. She was born in Shelby County, Kentucky in 1813, removed to Brown Township in this county, in 1821. At the age of 18, she was united in marriage to Wm Gott, who passed to the other world some years since. Six children were the fruit of this marriage, five of whom are yet living. Three in this state and two in Dakota. Rhoda A. Gott united with the Primitive Baptist Church in which communion she continued up to the time of her death. She will be buried by the side of her husband near Ladoga. The funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Oliphant in the Christian Church at the above named place tomorrow at 11 a.m. The remains will leave the residence of Dr. Gott, on West Main Street, at 9 o’clock a.m. tomorrow.
The many friends of “Aunt Rhoda,” as she was familiarly named by those who knew her best, will, on reading this brief notice of her death, recall her many excellences of character, and sigh to think that she has passed away although the measure of her years was full and her life work done, and well done.
