At 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, July 29, Martha Helen Gosnell, wife of W. R. Gosnell, died after an illness of about three weeks from a complication of diseases.

Martha Helen Raust was born April 19, 1855, in McClain County, Ill. At 12 years of age she united with the Christian Church. At 21 years of age, she was married to John W. McPeek, who only lived about two years. In 1882 she was united in marriage to John D. Stagner, with whom she lived four years when death made her again a widow. On the 5th of February, 1894, she was joined in wedlock to Willis R. Gosnell, who survives her. She was reconciled to meet the grim reaper when he came. She said she was happy in a Savior’s love. She was a noble hearted woman, deeply beloved by all her intimate friends and neighbors. She could truly say “Death where is thy Sting, Oh Grave where is thy Victory.” The funeral was held at the residence, 817 South Washington Street on Friday at 10 a.m. conducted by Rev. Creighton. Interment was at Oak Hill.
