VEEDERSBURG — Harry R. Gookins, 66, a life resident of this city died suddenly at noon Friday after being stricken by a heart attack. Death occurred at the Fountain County highway department's gravel pit near Rob Roy, where Gookins was employed as a checker. He had suffered a heart ailment for the past 10 years. Born March 7, 1889, in Veedersburg, he was the son of Frank and Emma Wertz Gookins. He was twice married. His first wife was Mamie Leighty and following her death he married Ruth Smith, who is manager of the state automobile license branch at Veedersburg. He was a member of the Veeders EUB Church, the Masonic Lodge and the Low Twelve of Wallace and Rockville. At one time he had been employed by the Indiana Condensed Milk Co., at Veedersburg, where he worked for 28 years. Surviving are his wife; a son, Gerald of Veedersburg; two sisters, Mrs. Marie Mills of Noblesville and Mrs. Eunice Cook of Veedersburg and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p, m. from the Veedersburg Methodist Church. Rev. Don Weaver will be in charge.
