Bernice O. Gooding, 68, of Rt. 4 Crawfordsville, died suddenly at 3 p.m. Monday at his home. He had been in failing health for two years. Mr. Gooding had been a farmer in Montgomery and Putnam Counties until his retirement in 1965. He was a member of the Waynetown Christian Church. He had been educated in Wallace and Browns Valley Schools. He was born near Waynetown Jan 12, 1899, a son of Alonzo and Myrta Davis Gooding. He was married to Mabel Peffley in Greencastle Dec. 24, 1921. Surviving are the widow; two brothers, Leland of Waynetown and Leonard of Breman, Ind.; three sisters, Mrs. Mary French of Waynetown, Mrs. Lucy Branson of Chicago and Mrs. Doris Myers of Hillsboro and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown with Rev. Fred Sharp and Rev. Morris Finch officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Crawfordsville. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday. – jlr

Crawfordsville – Bernice O. Gooding, 68 of Rt 4, Crawfordsville died unexpectedly at 3 p.m. Monday in his home 5 miles northeast of here. He had beenm in ill health for two years. He was born near Waynetown and married Mabel Peffley, at Greencastle in 1921.  He attended schools at Wallace and Browns Valley and farmed in Montgomery and Putnam Counties until his retirement in 1965.  He was a member of the Waynetown Christian Church. Surviving with the widow are two brothers, Leland of Waynetown and Leonard of Bremen and three sisters: Mrs. Mary French of Waynetown, Mrs. Lucy Branson of Chicago, Ill and Mrs. Doris Myers of Hillsboro.
