Goode - Lee Ann - Montgomery InGenWeb Project

The 17-year-old daughter of Crawfordsville's chief of police became Montgomery County's eighth traffic victim of 1980 in a single-car crash Saturday afternoon.  Lee Ann Goode, daughter of Carlos and Sharon Goode of Wingate was killed instantly when the car she was riding in smashed into a tree on US 136, four miles west of Crawfordsville at about 4:12 p.m. Saturday.  Montgomery County Coroner Russell Powers attributed the youth's death to a broken neck and massive internal injuries. The driver of the car, Tony Pritcheet, 19 also of Wingate suffered cuts, bruises and possible internal injuries in the accident.  He is listed in fair condition in Culver Hospital this morning.

A report filed by Investigating Montgomery County Sheriff's Deputy Chuck Leonard indicates the Pritchett vehicle was eastbound on US 13 near its intersection with County Road 400 W when the accident occurred. The driver of the vehicle told the deputy he was driving about 55 miles an hour when he spotted a slick spot in the road and tapped on his brakes to slow the vehicle. Pritchett said the back end of the car which he had owned for only a week, began to slide and he lost control. The car traveled 147' on the roadway before going into a field on the north side of the highway. The vehicle then traveled 103' before striking a tree nearly head on.  Investigators found the engine and its housing approximately 63'' beyond the point of impact.  Two neighbors who witnessed the accident estimated the Pritchett vehicle was traveling 60-75 miles an hour before the crash occurred Leonard said.

Witnesses told Leonard the driver was thrown from the behicle. They also reported the youth went to the auto and attempted to resuscitate Miss Goode, who was trapped inside.  Miss Goode was a junior at North Montgomery HS where she played the bass clarinet in the school's marching band. She attended Pleasant Hill United Church of Christ.  

She was born March 6, 1963 in Culver Hospital, a daughter of Carlos I and Sharon Ann Stewart Goode. Both survive.  Also surviving are two brothers, Philip of Wingate and Timothy an EMT for Crawfordsville Fire Department of Crawfordsville; a siter, Susan at home; paternal grandmother Mrs. Clifton (Lucinda) Coon of Wingate; maternal grandfather Charles D. Stewart of Crawfordsville and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Gertrude Minter of Augusta, Ky.  

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Thomas Funeral Home at Waynetown with Rev. Homer Hunsinger officiating.  Burial will be in Waynetown Msonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday.  

Indiana traffic experts predicted as many as 23 persons would be killed during the 102-hour Christmas holiday period, but police reported the county in the final stages of the long weekend was less than 1/3 that number.  Only six deaths were reported elsewhere in the state.  Thomas Stein 17 of Ft. Wayne was killed Saturday night when the car he was riding in went out of control and hit a house on the city's north side.  Police said the driver of the vbehicle was Jeffrey DeVille, 17 of Ft. Wayne suffered internal injuries.
Goshen poliace reported three person, including two young childred died when the driver of a car drove around crossing gates along Conrad tracks Saturday.  Investigators identified the victimas as Janice Culbreath 21 of Golden, her 23-month old son Lewis Galbreath and 16-month old Misy Damron of Goshen, a passenger.
Police said John F. Davidson 23 of Mishawaka was killed Sunday when his car skidded on ice and hit a utility pole along a St. Joseph County road near Mishawaka.
Brian E. Giesel, 17 of Cincinnati was killed Christmas Day when he car went out of control on US 50 (?) near Holton in Ripley County an dplunged down an embankment.
