Jesse Gobel Sept. 12, 1914 - June 27, 1991
Jesse E. Gobel, 76, of 2003 Lawndale Court, died at 1:10 p.m. Thursday in Culver Hospital. He had retired from the post office in 1973 after 30 years of service. Mr. Gobel raised show ponies and was active in 4-H and state fair horse shows. He was an Army veteran of World War II, member of Smartsburg Christian Church, BPO Elks 483, Eagles 1005, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Retired Rural Mail Carriers Association and active in the Democratic Party. He was a graduate of Crawfordsville High School. He was born Sept. 12, 1914, at Crawfordsville to William and Alice Mae Foster Gobel. He was first married to SaraLee Bowman on May 18, 1938. She died April 2, 1980. He then married Loretta "Lettie" Stewart on March 6, 1990. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Edward L. of Lafayette; a daughter, Kay Ardelean of Stockton, Calif.; a brother, Morris "Bill" of Beech Grove; a sister, Lucille Nunan of Crawfordsville; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. July 5 in Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Greg Lombard Rea officiating. Friends may call at Hunt & Son Funeral Home from noon to 1 p.m. the day of the service. Military graveside services will be conducted.
