LADOGA – Ralph E. Gottschall, 78, of Deerfield Beach, Fla., formerly of Ladoga, died Thursday evening as a result of injuries in an auto accident at Deerfield Beach. Police there said Gottschall made a left turn in front of an auto driven by Patrick James Howard, 17, of Del Ray, Fla. A passenger in Gottschall’s auto, Kathrina Hoh, 73, of Deerfield Beach, was dead on arrival at North Broward County Hospital. Mrs. Hoh was a neighbor of the Gottschalls, according to their daughter. Mr. Gottschall also died in the hospital. Mrs. Gottschall also a passenger, is in the hospital and listed in critical condition, the daughter said. Gottschall had owned and operated a funeral home here for 25 years, selling the business in the mid-1940s. He and his wife lived at Wabash until their move to Florida in 1960. He was a member of the Church of Brethren here. Mr. Gottschall was born on Jan. 8, 1895, near Dayton, Ohio, a son of Owen Arthur and Blanche Senseman Gottschall. He was married to Alpha M. McKee on April 19, 1917. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Veva Mae Hopkins and Mrs. Jan Featherston of Boca Raton, Fla., Mrs. Peggy Ann Mullen of 210 Jones Ave., and eight grandchildren. Private funeral services and burial are to be at Deerfield Beach. – jlr
