Pierre Frist Goodrich, of Indianapolis, widely known Indiana business executive, died Thursday in Methodist Hospital there. He was 79. Mr. Goodrich, a 1916 graduate of Wabash College, was the son of James P. Goodrich who served as Indiana governor in 1917-21. Mr. Goodrich was owner of the Indiana Telephone Corp. and at different times in his career owned large companies in such field as banking, coal and utilities. He retired in 1969 as a trustee of Wabash College after serving in that capacity for almost 29 years. At that time he was designated trustee emeritus and was the first to receive that title. While a student at Wabash he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and Phi Beta Kappa, scholastic honorary, and also worked on The Bachelor. Mr. Goodrich received an honorary LLD from Wabash College in 1949. He was graduated from Harvard University Law School in 1920. A native of Winchester, Mr. Goodrich was known as a musician, literary critic, philosopher and economist. He served in the development of the Indiana State Symphony and as a leader in many of the state’s financial and industrial enterprises. He was associated with several Indianapolis law firms, the latest being Goodrich, Campbell & Warren, and became known as one of the state’s leading corporation lawyers. He served as president and director of People’s Loan & Trust Co. of Winchester, Indiana Telephone Corp., Algers, Winslow & Western Railroad and the Patoka Coal Co. and was a board member of several other corporations. Mr. Goodrich was a member of the Indianapolis, Indiana and American bar associations, both the Indianapolis and Indiana chambers of commerce, the American Legion and the Anthenaeum Turnerss as well as several social organizations. Survivors include the widow, the former Enid Smith. Dr. Ben Rogge of Wabash College will give the memorial address at 11 a.m. Saturday in Flanner & Buchanan Fall Creek Mortuary. There will be a 3 p.m. service in the Presbyterian Church at Winchester. – jlr
