Mrs.Charlotte GIRT, one of the aged and highly respected ladies of the city, died at her home at early hour last Saturday at the age of almost 71 years, death being due to a complication of diseases incident to old age. For the past two years she had practically been an invalid. The funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon, Elder J. G. STINEBAUGH officiating. Interment was made in the Moss cemetery. Charlotte BOWERS, daughter of Abner and Elizabeth BOWERS, pioneer resident of this city, was born near Bowers Station, Montgomery county, Indiana, on February 12, 1846 and at the time of her death was 70 years, 11 months and 1 day of age. August 10, 1876, she was united in marriage to John H. GIRT, returning to this city about seven years ago from roan, Indiana. After about a year’s residence here the husband died suddenly. He had been up in the Pikes Peak neighborhood taking orders for fruit trees and had just entered the door of his home when he dropped dead. Deceased was the mother of four children, two of whom died in infancy. She is survived by three brothers, two sons and one step-daughter, Nellie, who had been her constant attendant during her long illness. She became a member of the Church of the Brethren in August 1893, and remained faithful to the last. In her death the church loses a valuable follower of Christ, her many acquaintances a loyal friend and the city a citizen that it will long remember for the good she has done during her residence here.
