Waveland - Harold E. "Heck" Gilliland, 66, of Waveland, died Saturday night in Carmen Nursing Home at Crawfordsville. He had been in failing health the past three years. Mr. Gilliland was a member of the Waveland Covenant United Methodist Church and Waveland Masonic Lodge 300, F & AM. He was a member of the Democrat Party and was once county vice-chairman. He had served as superintendent of the Shades State Park for four years before going to International Business Machines at Greencastle where he was employed until retiring in 1975. He also served on the board of trustees for his church. He also served as Brown Township precinct committeeman. Mr. Gilliland was a candidate for County Council District Two. His position on the November ballot is expected to be filled by the party's central committee. He was a graduate of Waveland High School. Born Sept 22, 1911, at Waveland, he was a son of John W. and Louisa Moody Gilliland. He was married to Alice Roberta Evernham at Sandborn on Feb. 28, 1942, she survives. Also surviving are two sons, J.D. of Bristol, England, and Bradford of Crawfordsville; two grandchildren; three brothers, John of Waveland, Sherman of Jamestown and James of Lafayette; and four sisters, Miss Grace Gilliland of Kankakee, Ill., Mrs. Everett (Martha) Myers and Mrs. Robert (Sue) Pruitt, both of Crawfordsville, and Mrs. Genave Purdue of Waveland. Services will be at 2 pm Wednesday in Machledt & Servies Funeral Home with the Rev. Glen Bates officiating. Burial will be in Indian Creek Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 pm Tuesday. The family has asked that contributions be made to the Heart Fund. - kbz
