THORNTOWN – Charles T. Gillan, 91, of Thorntown died at 5 a.m. Wednesday in Witham Hospital at Lebanon. Born May 3, 1885, in Barren County, Ky., he was a lifelong farmer. He married the former Maude D. Richey June 9, 1907, in Kentucky. She died May 31, 1960. He moved to the Darlington area in 1916 and to Thorntown in 1922. He was a member of the Thorntown Christian Church and Modern Woodmen. Survivors are three sons, William E. Gillan, Robert L. Gillan and Ward Devon Gillan, all of Thorntown; four daughters, Mrs. Estell (Mary) Joseph, Mrs. George (Gladys) Thrasher and Mrs. Donald (Janette) Holmes, all of North Fort Myers, Fla., and Mrs. Richard (Lois) Lance of Minneapolis, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren. One son, Lester R., died in World War II. Services are at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Russell & Hitch Funeral Home with Rev. Don Hainer and Rev. Christine Miner officiating. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday. – jlr
