WAYNETOWN - Maurice Gilkey, 74, of Waynetown died suddenly at 6 p.m. Wednesday in his home. He retired in 1962 as maintenance supervisor for the Crawfordsville City Schools. He had lived in Waynetown since 1944 when he moved there from the Mt. Zion area near Crawfordsville. Mr. Gilkey had served a term as trustee of Ripley Township and was a former clerk-treasurer of Waynetown. He was a member of the Waynetown United Methodist Church, Waynetown Masonic Lodge 302, Waynetown Order of the Eastern Star, and was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis. Born Sept. 18, 1898 at Alamo, he was a son of Samuel and Emma Smith Gilkey. He was graduated from Alamo High School in 1917. He was married Feb. 24, 1929, to Clara Miller of Alamo. Survivors include the widow; a daughter, Ann Fenimore of Rushville; a son-in-law, Leslie Fenimore; two grandsons, Craig and Bruce Fenimore of Rushville, and a sister, Miss Edith Gilkey of Crawfordsville. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Manning of Crawfordsville and Robert of Lafayette, and a sister, Mrs. Lura Grenard of Crawfordsville. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Servies-Thomas Funeral Home at Waynetown with the Rev. Kenneth Brock and the Rev. Ernest Hayden officiating. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Friday. - jlr
