Manning J. Gilkey, 73, Country Club Road died suddenly at 3 p.m. Wednesday at his home. He was born March 17, 1887 in Alamo, a son of Samuel H. and Emma Smith Gilkey. He was married in 1914 at Waynetown to Nellie Livengood. Mr. Gilkey was a member of the First Christian Church, Modern Woodmen Lodge and was a graduate of Alamo HS. He farmed in early life and worked on the state highway department about 20 years He later was a carpenter. Surviving are two sons, Leslie of Waukegan, Ill; and George of LaCrosse, Wis; 3 daughters, Mrs. Mary Guintoli of Elmhurst, Ill; Miss Marjorie Gilkey of Franklin and Mrs. Mary Merrell of Crawfordsville; a sister, Miss Edith Gilkey of Crawfordsville; two brothers, Maurice of Waynetown and Robert of Lafayette and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Alva Grenard. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bright Funeral Home with Rev. Paul E. Million, pastor of the First Christian Church in charge. Burial in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. - kbz
