Harley J. Gilkey, 74 of 407 Russell Avenue, a former employee of RR Donnelley & Sons died Friday morning at Culver Hospital where he had been a patient five weeks. Born March 11, 1876, at Winnamac, Mr. Gilkey was the son of Joseph Addison and Millicent Esther Nixon Gilkey. He married Mabel Grubbs at Tustin, Michigan May 7, 1912. His father was a native of Alamo. The mother, who died when he was two years old, was born at Richmond. Mr. Gilkey was reared by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William A. GIlkey, of near Alamo. He was a graduate of the Alamo HS and State Teachers College at North Springs, IA. He also was a member of the Alamo Methodist Church. Following his graduation from college, Mr. Gilkey lived in Michigan 3 years. He had been a resident of Crawfordsville since 1929. Previously he was a resident of Alamo where he spent most of his life. He was associated with RR Donnelley & Sons 14 years. Surviving are widow, two daughters, Mrs. Harold Polk of Champaign Ill and Mrs. Ralph Krug, of Crawfordsville; a niece, Mrs. Charles E. Clark of Paxton, Ill who was reared in the Gilkey home; a half sister, Mrs. Bessie McCann of San Diego, Calif; six grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Gilkey was preceded in death by an infant son, Herbert Dale; another son, George Robert; three brother and five sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Bright Funeral Home with burial at Alamo Cemetery, Rev. Harold R. Hotchkiss, of Trinity Methodist Church will be the officiating minister. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home. - kbz
