Samuel "Sammy" Gibbs, 78, formerly of 36 Center Drive died at 12:15 p.m. Friday in Lane House Nursing Care Center. He was retired from RR DOnnelley & Sons in 1968, and had lived at Crawfordsville since 1975, Gibbs had previously resided at Waynetown starting in 1940. Gibbs was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and a former member of Waynetown United Methodist Church.
Born Oct 3, 1906, in Warren County, Tenn, he was the son of Samuel and Mary Jane Hennessee GIbbs. He was married to Irene Thompson on March 3, 1927 also in Warren County. She survives and is a resident of Lane House.
Also surviving is a son, Jimmy J. Gibbs of Rt 4, Crawfordsville; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren and a sister, Hassie Green of Nashville, Tenn. A sister preceded him in death.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday in Friendship Baptist Church with Revs. James Dunbar and Dorman Winger officiating. Burial will be in the Waynetown Msaonic Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Sunday in Thomas Funeral Home at Waynetown and one hour prior to the service in the church.
