Leland Merle Gayler, 64, of 302 E. New, died Sunday (Feb 7, 1971) at Lake View memorial Hospital in Danville, Ill. He had been a patient there since Jan.22. Born on Attica Route 4, Oct. 28, 1906, he was the son of Albert M. and Mary Thayer Gayler. He married Martha Wright March 9, 1929, near Hillsboro. Mr. Gayler had resided in the Attica area most of his life except for five years in Hillsboro as a child. He attended Hillsboro School and was foundry foreman at Harrison Steel Casting Co. of Attica where he had been employed since 1927. He was a past master of Wabash Lodge 708 F&AM and a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis. Survivors include his widow; two sons, Dale of Morganton, N.C.,and Allen of Chicago Ill,; two daughters, Mrs. Carolyn West of New Castle, Del., and Mrs. Linda Lewton of Bloomington; two brothers, Oral of Williamsport and Harold of La Habra, Calif.; a half-brother, Fred of Attica; three sisters, Mrs. Opal Rater of Attica, Mrs. Joy Nutter of El Monte, Calif., and Mrs. Vivian Trietsck of Sanger, Tex.; and six grandchildren. Two sons and two half-brothers preceded him in death. Services Wednesday at the DeSutter Funeral Home. The Rev. Karl Korbel officiated with masonic services following.
