Garland - Will
Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal Friday, 25 December 1896
Word has been received from Medicine Lodge, Kansas, concerning the manner in which Will Garland, son of the late Luther Garland, met his death.
He was driving a buggy with the front sides cut down even with the floor. The butt of his loaded gun was resting on the floor and against the dashboard. While driving about, the butt of the gun slipped from the floor and one of the hammers struck the edge of the bed, the spring or the wheel, and discharged one of the barrels. The load of bird shot entered Mr. Garland’s left side, at close range, just above the point of the hip and ranged inward and upward. It was a fearful wound and necessarily fatal.
