Garland - Mary 1897
Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal Friday, 28 May 1897
W. W. Watson Saturday received a telegram from Medicine Lodge, Kansas, announcing the death of his sister, Mrs. Mary Garland, the widow of the late Luther Garland. Last summer Mr. and Mrs. Watson visited the Garland family in Kansas and left them well and happy. The family was then composed of four people: Mr. and Mrs. Garland, and their two grown children, Will and Effie. Shortly after Mr. and Mrs. Watson returned home, Mr. Garland fell from his horse and was killed. In the winter, Will went hunting and was accidentally shot and now Mrs. Garland has died, leaving only Miss Effie of a family which six months ago was unbroken.
The Garlands were all raised in Montgomery County but several years ago went to Kansas to reside. Their friends here will be pained to learn of the further affliction which has come upon them. -s
