Katherine “Kay” Gardner, 56, of DeMotte, Ind., died at her residence on Aug. 18. Her daughter, Mrs. William (Judie) Sampson of Pekin, Ill., is a former resident of Crawfordsville. Mrs. Gardner was a member of the St. Cecelia Catholic Church at DeMotte. She was born Nov. 16, 1919, a daughter of John and Eva Polomchak Kozup and had been a resident of DeMotte for 30 years. She was married at Crown Point Jan. 11, 1940, to William Gardner who died in 1965. Surviving besides her daughter are two sisters, Mrs. Mary Matusiak and Mrs. John (Ann) Moskus of East Chicago; three brothers, Nicholas of Downey, Calif., Michael of San Diego, and John of Griffith; and two grandchildren. Private graveside services were conducted Wednesday in the Sorrowful Mother Catholic Cemetery at Wheatfield. A memorial service was conducted today at the St. Cecelia Catholic Church at DeMotte. – jlr
