Friends here will remember Mrs. Sophia Gamble, later Mrs. Sophia Weaver who went to Iowa to make her home with her son, Cadmus. The following account of his death is from an Oskaloosa paper. Funeral services for the late Cadmus D. Gamble was conducted Wed. afternoon Oct 5, at the Wilcox-Garland chapel and was conducted Wed. afternoon Oct 5 at the Wilcox-Garland chapel and was largely attended the room being practically filled with friends of deceased and the family. Service was conducted by Rev. George E. Purdy, pastor of the Christian Church assisted by Rev. Frank R. Hamilton, pastor of the Congregational Church who offered prayer. The address was given by Mr. Purdy. Interment was made in Forest Cemetery. Mayor R.K. Davis, George McCarty, Hugh B. McCoy, Ben J. Snyder, Dr. Ben G. Williams and Maynard Watland acted in capacity of pallbearers. Vocal numbers in the service were furnished by Clair D. Gordon with Miss Jennie Fry at the piano. Cadmus D. Gamble was born June 29, 1878 in Warren Co, Iowa son of Mr. and Mrs. James Gamble. He was married to Charlotte Vermilyea, of Mahaska Co, Iowa Sept 1906. To them were born two children, Virginia and John V who with their mother survive. His going is also grieved by his mother, Mrs. Sophia Weaver who has been with him in his home and by two sisters, Pearl Gamble of Oskaloosa and Mrs. May Wenzzel of Pasadena. Mr. Gamble was a quiet man, not as easily approached as some, perhaps but when known possessed admirable traits. He was a lover of his home and family and in their welfare he was always interested. He spent several years of his life at Knoxville and at New Sharon but Oskaloosa has been his home for 20 years. He was not as rugged as some men and yet he was for the most part well. Very suddenly and almost without warning he passed away of heart trouble at his home on N. 9th St on Monday night Oct 3 aged 49 years 3 months and 4 days. - kbz
