Galloway - Robert

Source: Crawfordsville Journal, March 23, 1909

On last Sunday about the hour of 12, as Robert Galloway and daughter, Roxie, were about to partake of their Sun. meal, consisting of hominy and beans, there was a rap at the door. Robert quietly stepped to the door and on opening it there were about 30 of their friends and relatives, who rushed in with well filled baskets of all the good things imaginable to eat. The table was soon spread, being loaded down with the contents of the baskets, after which the guests were invited to be seated around the table. Then WT Wright brother-in-law of Robert informed him that the object of this surprise was to let him know that he has passed the 57th milestone of his life on this earth. The afternoon was spent in general conversation and music on the organ and phonograph. They all left at a late hour wishing Mr. Galloway another day like that. Those present were Dr & Mrs. RD Peterson and daughter of Indianapolis; Charles Armstrong & Family of Advance; Mr. & Mrs. James Armstrong; Mr. WT Wright, Mr. & Mrs. Willie Dice & dau; all of Linnsburg; Mr. & Mrs. WB Galey of Whitesville; Mr. & Mrs. Ora Armstrong and daughter; Mr. & Mrs. CL Lauthers; Mr. & Mrs. Earl Grubb; Mr. & Mrs. AJ Harris; Mr. Frank Armstrong and family; Mr. Albert Armstrong; Charles Galloway; John Harris, Miss Artie (?) armstrong and Mrs. Ray Davis, all of this place. Crawfordsville Weekly Review, Aug 13, 1881 Robert Galloway was born in Butler Co, Ohio in 1811. In 1828 he emigrated with his parents to this city, where he lived in the immediate vicinity until the day of his death, which occurred on the 11st inst of dropsy. Mr. Galloway has lived his life out a single man; he took the responsibility of his father's family early in life and his actions for the past half century have proved him competent to the task. Mr. Galloway never united with any Church, but his life has been upright and just to all. He was counsellor to all the members of his father's family and his labors have proved fruitful. Our County loses a noble citizen one that could be relied upon under any circumstances. But our loss is His gain.
