NARCISSA JOHNSON GALLION

Source: Wednesday, Crawfordsville Journal October 14, 1914

Narcissa Johnson Gallion, daughter of Harrison and Susan Griest Johnson was born at Gravelly Run, six miles east of Crawfordsville, September 3, 1851. Her death occurred at Merced, California, Aug 28, 1914. Several years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Goerge Gallion in company with their child, Miss Sybil moved to Whittier, California, where they lived and enjoyed the home, church and social life with many of their friends, there who had moved from the east. About 3 yeares ago Mr. Gallion disposed of his interests at that place and invest in properties at Huntington Park, one of Los Angeles suburb towns and where he at once proceeded to build them a modern home - into which they had only lived a few weeks when his death occurred. Not many months following his death, Mrs. Gallion was made an invalid by an attack of paralysis, from which she never recovered. Last summer with the hope of a change being the benefit to her, she in company with her daughter, went to the home of her sister, Mrs. Joseph McMeekin, at Mercede. It was while there, as she was returning home from church on Sunday morning the carriage in which she was riding, was struck by a runaway horse, causing her to be thrown out. The injuries sustained from same were such as to cause her death the following Friday morning. The body accompanied by her daughter, and Mr. and Mrs. McMeekin, left Saturday for Whittier, where on Monday funeral services were conducted and she was laid to rest by the side of her husband in the beautiful cemetery at that place. Mrs. Gallion leaves to mourn her loss, four brothers and two sisters, besides her many friends who remember her, as a noble Christian woman, known whever she lived as a good neighbor, a zealous church member and worker and as one who knew her it can be rightly said, "She hath done what she could." - kbz
