James Allen Fullenwider was mortally wounded by holdup men in Chicago on Wednesday night of last week and died a few hours later. The Record Herald of Thursday says; "In trying to escape from the three robbers who attacked him at 42nd St. and Wabash Ave. at 7 o'clock last night James A. Fullenwider, a lawyer, living at 472 42nd St. was shot and mortally wounded. A bullet fired by one of the highway men struck him in the back at the base of the spine. Mr. Fullenwider has an office in the Fisher Building, Dearborn and VanBurn streets. He left there for his home at 6 o'clock in the evening. Three men were seen by him as he reached 42nd St. and Wabash Ave. They were standing at the corner as he came up to them two revolvers were flashed in his face. "Throw up your hands," said one of the bandit, "or we'll blow your head off." Mr. Fullenwider started to run and had gone 50 feet when the robbers fired and he fell forward on his face and hands. Several persons who saw the shooting ran to his assistance and he was carried to the office of Dr. Jepson, 43rd and Wabash. Dr. Jepson saw his condition was critical and notifed the police of the 50th st. Station. While the police were on the way to the hospital, Dr. Jepson called up the institution by telephone, so that no time would be lost in preparing for the operation. Within 30 minutes after he was shot he was being operated on. One of the bullets had gone entirely through the hip bone and had perferated the intestines in 10 places, so it was seen taht there was no hope. He died a few hours later. Mr. Fullenwider was a lawyer of some note. He was born E. of town on the farm now owned by Robert Fullenwider and was the son of William Fullenwider. While he was still a youth, his parents removed to Heyworth, Ill where his mother still lives. He was known here as Allen. He leaves a wife, Emma and stepdaughter, Irene a sister Elizabeth and a brother, Robert. - kbz
