Alamo - Lewis D. Fruits, 67, of Rt. 3, Crawfordsville died of a heart attack at 12:30 a.m. today in his home a mile northeast of Alamo. He was a farmer and had retired as an Indiana State Highway Dept inspector in 1970. He had lived and farmed in the community since 1933. Mr. Fruits was a member of Alamo Christian Church, Alamo Masonic Lodge 144 of which he was a past master, Alamo Order of Eastern Star 498, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Wallace Low 12 Club and Ripley Twp Farm Bureau. He was graduated from Waynetown HS in 1926. Born Sept 27, 1908, near Waynetown, he was a son of Delmer and Daisy Hendricks Fruits. He was first married to Rachel Myers in 1931. She died in January 1973. He married Helen Humphreys Doan in November 1974. She survives. Also surviving is his mother of New Richmond; three sons, Russell of near New Richmond; James of Cincinnati and Dennis of Lake Holiday; three daughters, Mrs. Verda May Mills of near Crawfordsville; Mrs. Dema Kay Delp of Marshall and Mrs. Dianna Hutchison of Crawfordsville; two stepsons, Steven Doan of Ada, Michigan and Alan Doan of Indianapolis; 14 grandchildren and one stepgrandchild. His father and a sister are deceased. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Thomas Funeral Home at Waynetown with Rev. Noble Caruthers officiating. Burial in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. - kbz
