Harry A. Fruits, 87, of Crawfordsville died at 4:05 a.m. today at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital at Lafayette. Mr. Fruits was a farmer and a 27-year school bus driver. He had served in the Department of Instruction at Indianapolis, having retired in 1972. He was a member of Wesley Chapel Church, a life-member of the Crawfordsville Rotary Club and a past president of the Indiana State Association of School Bus Drivers. He was a graduate of Waynetown High School. He was born March 15, 1906, near Waynetown to Walter and Estella Bunnell Fruits. He first married Berneice Westrup in July 1930. He later married Carolyn Humphreys Edwards in June 1935. In February 1976, he married Georgia Switzer Powers. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Harry L. of Crawfordsville and Donald Joe of Waynetown; two daughters, Mrs. Bud (Marilyn) Nuttall of Dearborn, Mich., and Mrs. James (Kay) Holman of Crawfordsville; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Mike (Cindy) West of Leewood, Kan.; a brother, Glenn B. of Louisville, Ky.; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, a sister, two stepsons, a granddaughter and a great-grandchild. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Cramer Shoemaker Funeral Home at Waynetown. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
