Fannie Helen Fruits, the two year old daughter of Samuel and Kathren Fruits living in the west part of this city met with death in a peculiar manner Saturday. On Wednesday the child’s mother was putting down a carpet, the family having moved from the south part of the city the day preceding and the child picked up some carpet tacks, swallowing two of them “As she ran to her mother she began coughing and ejected one of the tacks from her throat though it was impossible for the child to cough up the other one and she kept coughing and seemingly trying to eject something from her lungs until Friday when she was taken very sick and continued to grow worse until 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon when she died. During the sickness she had a continuous rattling in her throat and lungs seemingly trying to cough something up and in her efforts she would eject blood from her nostrils and mouth. The attending pysicisans say that the child had an attack of the grip which was no doubt aggravated by the tack in her throat and lungs which hastened and no doubt caused her death. The funeral was held Monday services being conducted at the family residence by Rev. Richardson after which the remains were taken to the Lutheran cemetery one mile east of Wallace and laid to rest. The family have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in their sad bereavement. In Memory – contributed – Fanny Helen, little daughter of Sam and Katie Fruits, formerly of Yountsville, but now of Veedersburg died March 4, 1905 age 3 years and one month. Little Fanny was only a flower planted on this earth by the gentle hand of God to be plucked by the angels and carried to the heavenly home to await the coming of dear ones left behind. When standing ‘round the dying one, The tears followed down each check; they saw the suffering that was there and o’er it did weep.
