Crawfordsville – Burl E. Fruits, 96, of Crawfordsville, died Thursday Oct 3, 2002 in Veterans Administration Illiana Health Care in Danville, Ill.  Born May 28, 1906 in Crawfordsville, he graduated from Alamo HS in 1926 and lived in Alamo until moving to Crawfordsville. His marriages were to the late Lela Bell, the late Lelokadia Gruenke and Vera E. Brunner who died in 1995.  Mr. Fruits was the owner and operator of Fruits Sawmill in Alamo.  He was a member of Alamo Christian Church, was a Sunday School superintendent and was a youth Sunday School teacher for years.  He was a former trustee of Ripley Township, the original director of the American Coon Hound Association, president of the Montgomery County Farmers Union and member of Alamo Masonic Lodge. A Navy veteran, he served during WWII. Surviving are three daughters, Harriet Warrick and Nancy Fry, both of Crawfordsville and Sarah Lee of Indianapolis.

Fruits, Burl E. – Calling 4-8 p.m. Sunday Oct 6, 2002. Shoemaker Funeral Home, Waynetown. Services there 11 a.m. Monday Oct 7 the Rev. Glenn McFarland officiating. Interment Alamo (Ind) Cemetery. Six grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren survive. Preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters. – kbz
