ALAMO – Mrs. Bird Fruits, 86, died suddenly Tuesday evening at her Alamo home. She was a lifelong resident of the Alamo area. Mrs. Fruits was born on Dec. 8, 1880, the daughter of John N. and Cinderella Bolser Smith. On Feb. 18, 1903, she married Lonnie J. Fruits in Crawfordsville. He preceded her in death in 1959. Mr. and Mrs. Fruits moved to Alamo upon their retirement from the farm in 1932. She was the oldest living member of the Alamo Christian Church and a member of the Christian Church Ladies Aid. Mrs. Fruits was educated in the Yountsville School. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Katie Tucker of Alamo and Mary Fruits of New Richmond; a granddaughter, Mrs. Vivian Sheppherd of Lafayette, and several nieces and nephews. A son, Charles, two brothers, Grover and Carl, and a sister, Meg, preceded her in death. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown with Rev. Hugh Dooley officiating. Burial will be in the Alamo Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday. – jlr
