Alamo- Lonnie (Lon) Fruits, 80, died at 8:10 a.m. Tuesday in Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville. He was a patient there three weeks, suffering from diabetes and a heart condition. Born Jan 17, 1879 on the Fruits homestead in Ripley Twp, he was a son of Charles and Amanda Brailey Fruits. Mr. Fruits was married to Bird Smith of Crawfordsville Feb 18, 1903. He moved away with his family when a boy of 5 and returned to farm in Ripley Township after serving in the after serving in the Spanish-American War. In 1934 Mr. Fruits retired from farming and moved to Alamo. He was a member of the Ridge Farm Church until it disbanded, then joined the Alamo Christian Church. Survivors include his wife; one granddaughter, Mrs. Glenn Shepherd of Lafayette; a brother, John Fruits of Alamo; a half-brother, Charles Day of Henrietta, Mo and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles in 1960 and two half-sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Alamo Christian Church with Rev. John R. Servies officiating. Burial will be in the Alamo Cemetery. Friends may call at the Servies Funeral Home, Waynetown after 1 pm. Wednesday. - kbz
