Note: died 8-20-1969 Fabian J. Frisz, Terre Haute chiropractor who managed the Shades State Park when the area was a private resort, died at 10:05 p.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony Hospital. Dr. Frisz, 64, suffered a heart attack at his home and was rushed to the hospital where he died shortly after arrival. The deceased had been a chiropractor in Terre Haute for the last 10 years. He was a 1924 graduate of the Chicago National College of Drugless Physicians. Dr. Frisz assumed the management of the Shades upon the death of his father in 1939. His official title was general manager, Dell Mineral Springs Association, the company which owned the Shades. He continued in this capacity until June of 1947 when the property was sold to the state, but remained for another year as concessions manager for the park. His parents bought the resort in 1908. In 1949, he purchased the Triffon-Nussis Candy Kitchen in Crawfordsville and converted it into a sundries and luncheon store. He operated the firm until 1958, when he entered the advertising specialty business which was named Buy Rite Specialties Co. Afterward Frisz accepted a sales position with an advertising specialties firm based in Peoria, Ill., and traveled extensively. While in Crawfordsville, Frisz was a member of the Elks and Eagles lodges, Sigma Phi Kappa fraternity, the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, and the Fraternal Order of Police. He was affiliated with St. Bernard Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus chapter. In the latter organization, he once served as grand knight (president). Upon his arrival in Terre Haute he joined St. Ann Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus chapter there. In addition, he was a member of the Travelers Protective Association, United Commercial Travelers and the Greater Terre Haute Kiwanis Club. Born in Terre Haute on Jan. 20, 1905, he was the son of Joseph W. and Elizabeth D. Frisz. He attended schools in Terre Haute, graduating from Gerstmeyer in 1922. He was married on April 21, 1930, to Catherine Ann May at Chicago. She preceded him in death on Aug. 1, 1954. In 1932, Dr. Frisz became a sales representative for the Chicago Tribune in the Terre Haute area. A year afterward, he was appointed district manager for McFadden publications of New York City for seven states. Four years later, he engaged in the trucking business with the Merchants Freight Lines of Terre Haute. Surviving are his second wife, Lucille; three daughters, Mrs. Barbara Wilson of Terre Haute, Mrs. Catherine M. Conrady of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mrs. Cecile Berwick of Chicago; two brothers, F. Leo Frisz and Paul C. Frisz, both of Terre Haute; three sisters, Ethel F. Frisz of Indianapolis, Blanche M. Frisz of Terre Haute and Helen J. Hauck of Crawfordsville, and 12 grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Ann, who was killed in an automobile accident when she was 15, and a brother, Clarence. Services will be held Monday at the Callahan Funeral Home in Terre Haute.
