Ellis C. Friend, 78, of 1410 E. Main Street who retired six years ago from California Pellet Mill died at noon Tuesday in Culver Hospital. He had been ill since late last month. A native of Kentucky, Mr. Friend was a son of Theodore and Fannie Myers Friend and was born Oct 25, 1891. He was married Dec 17, 1913 to Etta Hester in Waveland. They observed their golden anniversary in 1963. Mr. Friend farmed most of his life in the New Market area. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Fulwider of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Agnes Dazey of Wingate; three sons, Lowell of New Market and Cale and Dale of Crawfordsville; two brothers, Arthur of Darlington and Buford of New Market; four sisters, Mrs. Ethel Hester, Mrs. Opal Rice and Mrs. Nellie Swearingen of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Eva Gentry of New Market and 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Four sisters, a brother and a granddaughter are deceased. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Howard F. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Thursday. -- kbz
