WAVELAND – Carlos Washington “Pete” France, 69, former owner and operator of Pete’s Welding Shop here, died this morning in Culver Hospital at Crawfordsville. He was a member of the American Legion and Freedom Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II. Mr. France was born at Mammoth Cave, Ky., on March 3, 1907, a son of James and Carrie Wilkins France. He was married to Nellie Anderson on Oct. 23, 1941, at Indianapolis. Surviving are his widow; four sons, James of Greenwood and Ray, Bob and Terry Joe, all of Waveland; two daughters, Connie Sue at home and Mrs. Frank (Sandi) Brown of Crawfordsville; two brothers, Daniel of Nashville, Tenn., and Woodrow of North Carolina; a sister, Mrs. Vera Thompson of Park City, Ky.; and 10 grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Machledt & Servies Funeral Home with the Revs. Eldon Coons and Bill Larison officiating. Burial will be in Maple Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Saturday. – jlr

Mrs. Frank Green and not Mrs. Frank Brown, as listed in Friday’s paper, is a daughter of Carlos “Pete” France, who died Friday in Culver Hospital. He was born on March 18, 1907, at Mammoth Cave, Ky. He was preceded in death by a son, David. –
