Mrs. Mattie V. Fox, wife of George C. Fox, died at their home on the Irvin Detchon farm, 2 miles east of Wingate at 6 o’clock on Wednesday morning, February 26. Her demise was rather sudden, from a complication of goitre and heart trouble. She had been ill  or a week, but her sickness was not considered serious until Tuesday night. Mrs. Fox’s maiden name was Lofland, and she was born and raised near Romney. She was a daughter of the late John Lofland and was born Feb. 7, 1868. She is survived by one sister, Miss Annie Lofland, and two brothers, Dr. W. A. Lofland of West Lafayette, and John S. Lofland of Romney. Mr. and Mrs. Fox moved from a farm east of Crawfordaville to the Detchon farm only three weeks ago.  Mrs. Fox is survived by the husband and an only son Will who is a student in Wabash College. The funeral occurred from the home at 10 o’clock Friday morning, conducted by Rev. F. G. Howard of Linden, followed by interment in Oat Hill cemetery, Crawfordsville.

Mrs. Mattie V. Fox, wife of George C. Fox, died Wednesday at the family residence near Wingate from a complication of diseases. Her maiden name was Mattie Lofland and she was born near Romney, February 7, 1868. She was the daughter of the late John Lofland. After her marriage to Mr. Fox she moved to Crawfordsville, and her husband was engaged in business in that city for some time. Two years ago they moved to a farm east of Crawfordsville, and ten days ago moved to a farm near Wingate. Mrs. Fox was a member of the Methodist church and the Tribe of Ben Hur. She was a woman of lofty character and had many friends. She is survived by her husband and one son, the latter a student at Wabash college. She also leaves one sister, Miss Anna Lofland, of Romney, and two brothers, Dr. W. A. Lofland, of West Lafayette, and John S. Lofland, of Romney. The funeral will be held from the residence Friday morning at 10 o’clock, with interment in the Oakville cemetery at Crawfordsville.   --– thanks muches to Lena for this one
