Mrs. Mattie V. Fox, wife of George C. Fox, died at their home on the Irvin Detchon farm, 2 miles east of Wingate at 6 o’clock on Wednesday morning, February 26. Her demise was rather sudden, from a complication of goitre and heart trouble. She had been ill  or a week, but her sickness was not considered serious until Tuesday night. Mrs. Fox’s maiden name was Lofland, and she was born and raised near Romney. She was a daughter of the late John Lofland and was born Feb. 7, 1868. She is survived by one sister, Miss Annie Lofland, and two brothers, Dr. W. A. Lofland of West Lafayette, and John S. Lofland of Romney. Mr. and Mrs. Fox moved from a farm east of Crawfordaville to the Detchon farm only three weeks ago.  Mrs. Fox is survived by the husband and an only son Will who is a student in Wabash College. The funeral occurred from the home at 10 o’clock Friday morning, conducted by Rev. F. G. Howard of Linden, followed by interment in Oat Hill cemetery, Crawfordsville.
