Thursday about one o’clock a.m. J. Z. Foster, a well known young colored man, died at the home of Mrs. Mary Thomas, on Harrison Street. He had been ill but a few hours and his death is rather mysterious. He was one of the debaters against Charles Benjamin and Gus Fink Tuesday night and was taken violently ill while on the floor. He grew better and Wednesday morning went to Mrs. Thomas’ home. There he was again taken ill and grew worse until he died. He was thirty years of age and was a native of Madison, this state, where his mother still lives and where his body will be sent for burial. Mr. Foster was a graduate of the Madison High School and was exceptionally well informed being a hard student. He had taught school for several years and came to this city some months ago in the hope of obtaining a school. He was a member of the Baptist Church and quite popular with all his acquaintances.
