Source: Waveland Independent, April 24, 1931

The community was shocked on Tuesday by the unexpected death of John H. FOSTER of Browns Valley. He had gone to the bank of which he was president after the noon hour and had placed the books on the desk, ready for work. Mrs. Hiram Slaves and Miss Claral Rice came into the bank, but seeing no one waited until the cashier, Edgar Pitts came. He stepped behind the counter and found Mr. Foster lying on his back, dead. The physicial called said that he was probably dead before he struck the floor. His head just missed striking the adding machine. He had been in poor health for some time and had trouble with his heart. He was the son of Thomas and Hannah Foster, and was born near Waveland, April 9, 1868. His first wife was Miss Lela NELSON now dead. In 1913 he married Elizabeth DINSMORE who survives him with two half brothers, jeff Davis and Lee Foster, and one half sister, Mrs. Mima BOOHER. There is one son, George and two foster daughters, Mrs. Dumont FEATHERS of NEw Ross and Gayle at home. Funeral services on Thursday afternoon were at the Browns Valley Christian Church of which he was a charter member in charge of Rev. Cecil Franklin. Burial at Indian Creek Cemetery. Mr. Foster was well liked in the community. He was a staunch democrat and served two terms as deputy sheriff and made an unsuccessful race for sheriff. He had been president of the bank since 1924.   --kbz
