ALVA R. FORD -- Son of Theodric and Mary Young Ford, was born Dec. 10, 1879, on a farm in Montgomery County, southeast of Ladoga, and passed away at his home in Ladoga on the morning of Jan. 31, 1960, at the age of 80 years. He had been bedfast since July. He spent most of his life in Montgomery and Hendricks counties, moving to Ladoga 15 years ago. He was first married to Ethel Zimmerman in 1901, and to this union were born two sons, Jesse and Nelson, his wife passing away in 1918. On June 28, 1922, he was married to Ida Welcher McGaughey, who survives. Mr. Ford was one of five children and eight step-children of the family of the late Jessie and Mary Ford Dean. He was an auctioneer 51 years and became widely known throughout the state, traveling from place to place to conduct sales. Eight years ago, having suffered a heart attack, he gave up auctioneering to go into the real estate business. He was a member of the Bethel Christian Church and Past Master of the North Salem Masonic Lodge and at one time was active in the Ladoga Lions Club. He leaves a wife, one son, one step-daughter, one step-brother, five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one niece, one nephew, two daughters-in-law, a host of other relatives and friends. A son, Nelson Ford, preceded his father in death. The funeral was conducted from the Gephart Mortuary by Rev. Howard Ray of Ladoga Christian Church, with Mrs. Jennie Frantz presiding at the organ. He was laid to rest in the North Salem Cemetery. He has fought a good fight, a kind husband and a loyal friend to all, by his deeds may he be always remembered.  -- kbz

Alva R. Ford, longtime auctioneer who was 80 December 10 died yesterday in his home at Ladoga. Born in Putnam County, Mr. Ford had lived most of his life in Hendricks moving to Montgomery County 15 years ago. He was an auctioneer 51 years and became widely-known throughout the state, traveling from place to place to conduct sales. About eight years ago, having suffered a heart attack, he gave up auctioneering to go into real estate. He also owned a Hendricks County farm.  Mr. Ford was one of 13 children of the late Theodoric and Mary (Young) Ford.  He was a member of Bethel Christian Church near Roachdale. He was past master of North Salem Masonic Lodge and at one time active in the Lions Club.  His first wife was the late Ethel Ford. His second whom he married in 1922 and who survives is Ida Welcher Ford. Services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Gephart Funeral Home, Ladoga, with burial in North Salem Cemetery. A son, Nelson Ford, died 8 years ago.  Survivors, besides the widow are another son, Jesse Ford, Roachdale; a stepdaughter, Okie Watson Indianapolis; 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
