Cash R. Flaningam, 61, collapsed and died suddenly at 5:28 p. m. Thursday at his home, 310 List St. He had been employed at Allison's in Indianapolis and in recent years at Etter's Ford Sales at New Market. His wife, Pearl, is manager of women's apparel at Dellekamp's Department Store in Crawfordsville. Mr. Flaningam was born in Darlington Feb. 10, 1896, a son of James W. and Myrtle Elliott Flaningam. His mother died in 1900. The elder Mr. Flaningam was married to Daisy Burton, who reared the boy from the age of six and who survives. His father died in 1930. Cash Flaningam was wed Jan. 7, 1925, to Helen Noble, who died at the birth of their daughter, Harriett. A son, Jim, was born to a second marriage, with Janet Douglas. Mr. Flaningam was married Feb. 8, 1952, to Pearl Northcutt Esra, who survives. He came to Crawfordsville with his parents at the age of 12 and had resided here since. He attended Wabash College. Mr. Flaningam was a lieutenant in the U. S. armed forces in World War I. He was a member of the Methodist Church and the American Legion and also of the Elks Lodge, of which he was a past Exalted Ruler. Survivors include the widow and step-mother; a daughter, Mrs. David Burns of Speedway City; a son, Jim, of Warrenton, Va.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. William Williams of Crawfordsville; a step-son, LeRoy Esra of Mesa, Ariz.; an uncle, Will Flaningam of Champaign, Ill.; a cousin, Jack Flaningam, whose mother died when he was a child and who was also reared by Cash's parents, and 12 grandchildren. Preceding him in death were three brothers, all in infancy. Bright Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements, which are pending arrival of members of the family from out of the state.
