Walter R. Fitzwater, 73, of Elmdale died at 9:15 p.m. Thursday in Americana Nursing Home, Lafayette after several months' illness. Born April 12, 1897, near Darlington, he was the son of Newton and Mary Margaret Bailes Fitzwater. He was married April 24, 1924 to Ila A. Hansell at Greencastle. A member of the Elmdale United Methodist Church, he had resided in Elmdale the past 25 years. Survivors include the wife, two sons, Harvey l, Indianapolis and Jonathan R. of Orange, Calif; two daughters, Mrs. Don (Neva) McCorkle, Wingate and Mrs. Dale (Blanche) Miller, Bainbridge, 17 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 3 brothers, Sherman of Crawfordsville; Homer of Jasonville and Orville of Pasadena, Calif, two sisters, Mrs. Earl Graves, New Ross and Mrs. Aletha LaFollette, Crawfordsville. He was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Servies-Thomas Funeral Home in Wayntown with Rev. Jean McCan officiating. Burial will be in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Sunday. - kbz
