J. M. Fitch, of Perry Township, committed suicide one day last week by taking some kind of poison. It is said he had quarreled with his uncle a short time before and had attempted to shoot him, but instead came near hitting a small boy. This seemed to make him crazy, and he at once attempted his own life, but was prevented from doing himself any injury until he got hold of a bottle containing poison (we did not learn what kind), when he went to the well, deliberately swallowed the contents, and, coming in the house, threw the bottle in his wife’s lap, coolly remarking that he had now fixed himself and she could not help it, or something of that kind. He was soon beyond the reach of medical skill, and died in a short time. He leaves a wife and family. There is no doubt that the excessive use of intoxicating liquor caused his insanity.—Lebanon Patriot
